The Rwanda Football Federation (FERWAFA) has approved a budget for 2025, allocating 4.79 billion Rwandan Francs (Frw) for major projects, including the construction of four modern football stadiums. This decision was made during an extraordinary General Assembly meeting held on Saturday, February 15, 2025.

The meeting, chaired by FERWAFA President Munyantwali Alphonse, began at 10:30 AM with a formal welcome to all attendees. The session reviewed the participation of invited members to ensure compliance with regulations.

During the meeting, Jean Marie Rugambwa, the Finance Commissioner, presented a detailed financial report, outlining how the 2024 budget was utilized and the planned expenditures for 2025. He revealed that FERWAFA currently holds 292.5 million Frw in its accounts, which will be used as part of the upcoming projects.

FERWAFA has allocated a total budget of 15.3 billion Frw for 2025. These funds will come from multiple sources, including:

  • The Ministry of Sports
  • Confederation of African Football (CAF)
  • Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA)
  • Paris Saint-Germain (PSG)
  • Revenue from stadium operations
  • Debt recoveries and other investments

Among these funds, 4.79 billion Frw will be invested in the establishment of FERWAFA’s own Radio and TV station and the construction of new stadiums in various districts.

New Stadiums and Media Expansion

The infrastructure development plan includes the construction of modern football stadiums in the districts of Gicumbi, Rutsiro, and Rusizi. These stadiums are expected to enhance Rwanda’s sports facilities and promote football development across the country.

President Munyantwali Alphonse assured stakeholders that the construction process would begin soon and be completed on schedule.

“We have already secured an investor, and everything is well organized. By early March 2025, construction will start, and by August 2025, all projects will be completed without any issues,” he stated.

In addition to infrastructure, FERWAFA is working on launching its own Television and Radio station. According to Kalisa Adolphe, the Secretary-General of FERWAFA, preparations are already in progress to secure the necessary resources.

“Our goal is to provide credible and original sports news through our dedicated TV and radio station,” he explained.

These projects align with FIFA’s “FIFA Forward” initiative, launched in 2021 to improve football infrastructure worldwide. Through this program, FIFA has been supporting the development of sports facilities in different countries, and Rwanda is among the beneficiaries.

With a well-structured budget and clear investment plans, FERWAFA is taking significant steps to enhance Rwandan football. The construction of new stadiums and the establishment of a dedicated media platform will not only improve football facilities but also strengthen communication within the sports sector.

These developments are expected to have a long-term positive impact on football in Rwanda, providing better facilities for players and offering fans high-quality sports coverage.
