Kiyovu Sports Team is on the Edge

Kiyovu Sports Faces a Tough Season

Kiyovu Sports, once celebrated as a leading team in the Rwandan Premier League, is now grappling with a severe decline. Victories have become rare, fans are losing enthusiasm, and the management remains silent on how to address the crisis.

Currently sitting in 14th place, Kiyovu suffered a second consecutive defeat in the league, falling 2-0 to Amagaju. The match, held at Kigali Pele Stadium on Sunday, September 29, 2024, was part of the fifth round of the league.

Kiyovu began the game poorly despite playing on home turf. By the 20th minute, Cyiza Seraphin had already scored the first goal for Amagaju. Just 14 minutes later, Seraphin added another goal, both resulting from defensive mistakes and a lack of coordination in Kiyovu’s midfield.

At halftime, coach Bipfubusa Joslin made substitutions, bringing on Mukunzi Djibril, Twahirwa Olivier, and Iradukunda Luc Daniel. However, these changes failed to turn the game around. Within two minutes of the second half, Kiyovu faced immense pressure and nearly conceded another goal.

The team struggled to maintain possession, often failing to make even three consecutive passes. Players lacked the physical strength needed to compete effectively. Later, Bipfubusa introduced Nsabimana Denny and Ishimwe Kevin to bolster the attack, but Amagaju’s defense, led by Abdel Matumona, proved impenetrable.

Fans Are Losing Faith

Kiyovu fans have always stood by their team, but the poor turnout at this match highlighted their growing frustration. The few supporters who attended remained quiet, as the game offered little excitement or hope for a comeback.

Management and Financial Woes

Off the pitch, Kiyovu’s problems extend to financial and legal issues. The management is struggling to pay players their salaries and bonuses. Former players have taken legal action against the club over unpaid debts, adding to the turmoil.

Kiyovu Sports faces a crucial test in their next match against Marine FC in Rubavu. Fans are eager to see if the team can bounce back from this dismal start to the season. Visit Our Sports page to read more.
