Over the next few weeks, the air between Sophia and Michael begins to change. Their interactions, once cold and formal, start to take on a new warmth. They exchange brief conversations in the mornings and evenings, though both maintain their professionalism. Michael often finds Sophia working late, and though he doesn’t say much, he leaves small signs of care—an extra cup of coffee on her desk, the fireplace lit on cold nights, or a plate of her favorite snacks when she’s too busy to eat.
One evening, as a violent storm rages outside, the power in the mansion goes out. Sophia, still at her desk, feels frustration building as her computer shuts down mid-project. She calls out for Michael, and within minutes, he’s at her side with a flashlight.
“We’ll get the backup generator running soon,” he says calmly.
In the dim light, something shifts. Sophia feels a sudden vulnerability she’s never allowed herself to experience. She’s always been in control—of her career, her home, her emotions. But here, in the darkened room, with Michael standing close, she feels something different.
“Thank you, Michael,” she says softly.
Their eyes meet again, and this time, neither looks away. The moment lingers, and though no words are spoken, an undeniable connection passes between them.
Before they can say more, the lights flicker back on. The moment is gone, but both know something has changed. Sophia’s carefully constructed walls are beginning to crumble, and Michael, ever respectful, waits to see if she’ll let him in.
