Three young soccer players from Bayern Munich Academy in Rwanda have been chosen to continue their training in Germany and take part in trials that could secure their place there.
On the evening of Saturday, September 14, 2024, Irumva Nerson, David Okoce, and Ndayishimiye Barthazar left Rwanda for Munich.
Before their departure, they received advice from the Rwanda Football Federation (FERWAFA), which encouraged them to perform well as they represent their country.
Habimana Hamdan, the Commissioner for Technical and Football Development, stated that their journey is significant for Rwandan football and is an opportunity not to be wasted.
He said, “We wish you a safe journey and success, and we hope you will exhibit good behavior. This training program has already begun to yield results as it has started producing players for the National U-20 Team.”
Bernhard Hirmer, head of scouting for Bayern Munich’s Football Academy in Rwanda, noted that the Rwandan players have talent, which is why they were selected.
He said, “This program by Bayern Munich is not something many see as an opportunity. The fact that these players were chosen doesn’t mean they are the best, but they were selected based on their potential. They must work hard as they will be competing with players from other countries. Reports indicate that there is talent in Rwanda.”
“How they perform will help increase the number of players to be tested. If they do well, they might stay longer as there are many people seeking players for teams.”
This is not Ndayishimiye’s first trip to Germany; he had previously gone for trials but returned to Rwanda. He has been given another chance due to his potential.
All the players stated they would give their best and show that there is valuable soccer talent in Rwanda that deserves attention.
The trial will last for five months, and those who perform well might stay longer and be offered places on teams or in higher-level training programs.
Bayern Munich Academy selects the most talented young players in soccer, offering a great chance to refine their skills as part of an agreement between Rwanda and FC Bayern Munich, a top team in the Bundesliga.
