A Loss of Over 200 Million Rwandan Francs: Munyakazi Sadate Quits Leading Rayon Sports

Munyakazi Sadate, who once led Rayon Sports, shared the financial losses he suffered and the insults he faced, which contributed to his decision not to lead the team again, a team that is currently without a president.

In 2019, towards the end of Paul Muvunyi’s term, a new name started to emerge, with people saying it was a person with a lot of money and an active role in the team’s daily affairs.

Eventually, Munyakazi was elected as the leader of the team in July 2019, and many fans welcomed him, thinking that his money would solve the team’s financial issues.

He came in with several development plans, including the MK Card project, which was supposed to help the team generate income, and he also introduced the idea of building a stadium called “Gikundiro Stadium.”

However, things took a turn for the worse, and he faced heavy criticism and was accused of ruining the team. In September 2020, Munyakazi was removed from his position, and the team was left under an interim committee.

In an interview with IGIHE, Munyakazi revealed that during his leadership, he lost over 200 million Rwandan Francs, which included player salaries, player signings, and various projects he undertook.

When asked if he would ever consider leading the team again, Munyakazi strongly denied it, saying it’s not part of his plans.

He stated, “It’s not possible. I’m telling the whole world that Munyakazi Sadate will not return to lead Rayon Sports again. It’s not in my plans.”

He went on to explain that he was discouraged by the responsibilities because he lost a lot of money, and in the end, he was met with nothing but insults.

He added, “If you remember, these offices were always filled with Rayon Sports fans. I almost put my own job aside. I kept using my own money, sometimes hiding it from my wife, to pay players, including those signed during Muvunyi’s term and my own term. I spent 94 million Rwandan Francs.”

“I worked on the MK Card project, which cost me over 150 million Rwandan Francs. The records are there. I spent sleepless nights improving the team’s performance, preparing management guidelines, and setting up systems to make Rayon Sports a strong team. I dedicated my time, but in the end, people said Sadate was trying to destroy Rayon Sports.”

Munyakazi said that instead of leading the team again, he has chosen to support any future leader of the team and offer whatever help he can.

He concluded, “I’m scared. No, honestly, no. Even if the Rayon Sports fans see me that way, no. I will support any leadership that comes, and that is my promise to Rayon Sports. But as for leading again, no.”

Munyakazi Sadate led Rayon Sports from July 2019 until September 2020.
