Six People Die from Marburg Virus Outbreak in Rwanda

Six people have lost their lives due to the Marburg virus, a deadly disease causing high fever, while 20 others have been infected across the country.

The Ministry of Health recently confirmed that a few cases of the Marburg virus have emerged in Rwanda. Tragically, six people have died, and 20 individuals are now known to be infected. According to the Ministry’s statement, the majority of the cases and fatalities are healthcare workers, particularly those in critical care facilities.

Currently, the Ministry of Health, in collaboration with other government agencies and partners, is actively tracing people who came into contact with the infected and those who passed away from the virus.

Dr. Sabin Nsanzimana, the Minister of Health, has reassured the public, urging Rwandans not to panic as the government is doing everything possible to contain the outbreak.

“As we continue our efforts to prevent and fight the spread of the Marburg virus, we ask everyone to remain calm. It is important to follow the safety measures, especially avoiding sharing personal items with those showing symptoms of the virus, washing hands regularly with clean water and soap, and using sanitizers or other disinfectants,” he added.
