Kiyovu Sports, once praised by everyone in the last two years, is now on the verge of collapse. Victories have become rare, fans are losing their excitement, and the management seems silent on the issue.
Kiyovu Sports now finds itself in 14th place after losing its second consecutive match in the Rwandan Premier League, this time 2-0 against Amagaju.
The game was played at Kigali Pele Stadium on Sunday, September 29, 2024, as part of the fifth round of the league.
Kiyovu started the match poorly, even though they were playing on their familiar ground. By the 20th minute, they had already conceded the first goal, scored by Cyiza Seraphin.
This forward added another goal 14 minutes later, both coming from defensive errors and lack of coordination in Kiyovu’s midfield.
At the start of the second half, their coach, Bipfubusa Joslin, made changes, bringing in Mukunzi Djibril, Twahirwa Olivier, and Iradukunda Luc Daniel.
However, barely two minutes after these players came on, Kiyovu was once again under pressure, almost conceding another goal.
It was clear that Kiyovu’s players struggled to make even three passes between them, and they lacked the physical strength to compete for the ball.
Bipfubusa also brought on Nsabimana Denny and Ishimwe Kevin, hoping to threaten Amagaju’s goal, but breaking through the defense led by Abdel Matumona was a difficult task.
Kiyovu Sports’ fans are known for supporting their team through thick and thin, but looking at how poorly attended the match was, it’s clear that even their loyal supporters are losing hope.
Those who did attend had little energy to cheer, as the game offered no excitement and no hope of a comeback.
Kiyovu Sports’ management is still struggling to pay players their salaries and bonuses and to resolve legal issues with former players who have taken the club to court over unpaid debts.
Kiyovu’s next match will be away in Rubavu, where they will face Marine FC. For more aritcles visit our Sports page
